UNC Charlotte recently held a beam signing ceremony to mark construction progress on their new University Recreation Center as part of the school’s Day of Convocation. The signed beam will be visible above the center’s indoor track when the center opens in 2019.
“This is the last major student life facility that UNC Charlotte will need to construct to properly serve a campus of our size,” said UNC Charlotte Chancellor Philip Dubois at the event. “Our students will now have an appropriate amount of space for individual exercise and group fitness. Maintaining personal health is essential for students to be successful in their academic work and for participating in student activities that build the organizational and leadership skills that they will need to be successful after completing their degrees.”
When finished, the 148,000 sf University Rec Center will feature indoor and outdoor pools, multipurpose courts, group fitness studios, a cycling studio, an elevated running/walking track, multi-floor cardio and strength training equipment and a demonstration kitchen. Outside, sand volleyball and basketball courts will be part of the center complex.
