The highly anticipated new dining experience is an important piece to complete Phase 3 of the University at Buffalo’s “Heart of the Campus” strategic plan. The recently named One World Café will create a “front door” to the university around and under the existing overhangs of Capen Hall and the Founders Plaza courtyard between Norton and Capen halls. As envisioned, One World Café will be about 23,000 sf and will focus on serving a variety of international cuisines after strong student input and visioning sessions.
CannonDesign has been integral in the process of gathering student and faculty feedback on the design. They recently held focus groups where nearly 1,300 members of the UB community participated. Many on the design team are UB graduates and have a vested interest in seeing this project succeed. The anticipated opening date is 2020.
Peter McCarthy, AIA, vice president at Cannon Design, presents information on the One World Café to students during focus groups in the Student Union. Peter holds a master’s degree in architecture from UB.
