We’re thrilled to share that Zurich North America’s HQ has been named CoreNet Chicago’s 2017 Project of the Year. The largest single-tenant office development in Chicago in more than a decade, Zurich’s 783,000 sf HQ is home to nearly 3,000 employees and the result of a remarkably extensive workplace testing and engagement effort that crowdsourced ideas from Zurich employees years before the opening. CannonDesign is proud to have had its workplace strategy, interior design and change management teams contribute to this dynamic project.
To ensure the new HQ best met Zurich employees’ needs, CannonDesign helped Zurich execute a workplace testing experience where 150 employees spent three months testing four uniquely configured office neighborhoods early on in the project. During the 12-week workplace testing effort, employees split time between individual workstations and shared spaces throughout the pilot floor, all while testing different office furniture, meeting spaces, enclaves and conference rooms that could be incorporated into the final building. This high level of engagement has paid off with post-occupancy data revealing:
- Satisfaction with the new HQ is at 83% (an increase of 30%) for all employees. The industry benchmark is 60%
- A nearly 50% increase in interaction within teams, between teams and direct reports
- Over 78% of Zurich employees feel their ability for work flexibility has increased with the new building
These metrics, the building’s strong design and the inclusion of key spaces including a conference center, auditorium, coffee bar / retail concourse, cafe/dining atrium and fitness center all contributed to the project receiving the CoreNet award.
