CannonDesign Updating Lake Placid Olympic Venues 40 Years after Historic 1980 Games

A new segment from WGRZ Buffalo celebrates CannonDesign’s role in updating Lake Placid’s hallowed Olympic venues 40 years after the historic 1980 Games.

In the clip, our Mike Ohar walks through the projects our team is leading for New York State’s Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) at both The Olympic Center in downtown Lake Placid and the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Base Lodge. He also shares the immense pride our team feels to be contributing to such a strong sports legacy. “It’s been the most amazing project I’ve been working on,” he says in the clip. “We’re all very excited.”

At The Olympic Center, our team is helping ORDA update the Herb Brooks Arena (site of the famous 1980s Miracle on Ice hockey game), reprogram the center’s main entry, update and expand the USA Arena, and improve athlete and spectator experiences. We’re also helping ORDA renovate office space in the connected “link” building and introduce new dining space, a monumental stair and glass elevator.

At the 45,000 sf Mt. Van Hoevenberg Base Lodge, our updates rejuvenate a mixed-use facility with an 80-meter warmup track, two-story rock climbing wall, a biathlong competition suite, bobsled practice push track, food service area and basic lodge amenities.
