Revitalizing One of Europe’s Largest Retail Centers
Les Quatre Temps (translated “The Four Seasons”), a retail complex located in the La Défense commercial district of Paris, opened in 1981 as the largest retail center in Europe and continues to host 33 million visits each year. Beginning to show its age in the mid-2000s, Les Quatre Temps required extensive renovation and expansion to maintain its brand and continue to meet demand for decades to come.
Key highlights of the renovation effort included:
- The expansion consciously preserved highly-valued public space by limiting the footprint of the addition and investing in reconfiguring the interior of the center.
- The renovation and expansion creates a new icon for the mall – The Mast – which supports a large skylight and roof load with a limited number of columns to ensure an open environment.
- The mall’s entire exterior was reclad with a high-performance glass curtainwall system. At night, color-changing lights illuminate the skin transforming the mall into a glowing beacon on the Champs-Élysées
