Expansion Supports Hospital’s Long-Range Clinical Goals

Penn Medicine, Lancaster General Health, Lancaster, PA

A vertical and horizontal expansion of the existing three-story Stauffer Building to accommodate medical/surgical inpatient beds, in support of the hospital’s long-range strategic clinical goals. The 155,000 sf project includes the vertical construction of six additional floors, horizontal expansion to the east for the full height of the building, a bridge connection at all levels to the existing patient transport elevators in the adjacent Lime Street Building, and a new rooftop helipad at Level 9. Eighty beds and associated support spaces will be provided, plus shell space to accommodate future pediatric inpatient beds.

Associated with this project, LGH has also engaged CannonDesign to develop long-range master plans for their Cardiology and Imaging programs, located in the existing Stauffer Building. The master plans developed into A/E services and will create seven new Cath Labs and EP Labs in 39,550 sf; four new in shell space; three newly renovated in existing space; 25 prep/recovery bays, and their associated support services in a four-phased project while remaining fully operational. All Cath Lab and EP labs will be designated as a surgical operating room.
