21st Century Campus
As part of a district-wide consolidation of 12 facilities for the Roosevelt Union Free School District, we partnered with the district to provide planning and design services for the high school. Highlights include a new library/media/broadcast center, a new cafeteria, and a physical education wing. Intersecting major corridors were enlarged to create a “main street” serving the new lobby and major assembly areas, while a “student street” links the academic and physical education functions. A new “house plan” clusters 12 general classrooms with two dedicated special-education classrooms, two science labs, two computer labs, and an assistant principal administrative hub.
The new “house” may be devoted either to freshman students or to a yet-to-be-determined Academic Achievement Academy in partnership with area colleges. A second wing comprises 24 classrooms, three special-education classrooms, and another administrative hub. Between the two wings is a state-of-the-art science department with eight enlarged science labs — four with moveable wet/wired lab benches — and two computer labs. Two new career centers — one for culinary arts, the other for medical technology — and expanded and new athletic fields complete the school’s comprehensive transformation.
