Fostering Interdisciplinary Collaboration to Innovate for the Future
Housing departments of chemistry, biology, and neuroscience, Rutgers University’s Life Sciences Center encourages faculty and students from different science departments to collaborate on projects that cross traditional departmental boundaries. The six-story building is also home to a series of innovation labs that encourage entrepreneurship and host breakthrough R&D for business, science and industry. The building is the final component and “front door” of the Newark campus science complex.
As a key component of Rutgers’ STEM curriculum, the building’s learning spaces — including state-of-the-art vivaria spaces — are tailored to facilitate interconnections among science disciplines. Transparent design components and viewing devices in all instructional spaces further these connections, making science an open and collaborative process.
