A Framework for Connected Science
Ryerson University commissioned us to lead a strategic visioning process to establish a future-focused roadmap for the newly established Faculty of Science, and to create a prioritized list of activities to assist Ryerson in implementing the vision. These activities included the development of a high-level building design concept for a new 275,000 sf facility to initiate fund-raising, enhance the branding of the new school, and broaden collaborative interest in the project.
Ryerson has a strong reputation as a city-building university, and the vision for “connected science” will reinforce the university’s engagement and commitment to the city of Toronto.
Among the five guiding principles and 20 strategic initiatives developed by the vision team is a recognition that a new organizational structure will be necessary to enable integrated learning and research, enhance technology transfer, forge closer ties to the community, and provide more efficient and effective impacts. The plan promotes humanity in science and social innovation, and creates measurable outcomes-focused guidelines that will directly inform the program and design of the future new facility.
I was impressed by the methodology and the process CannonDesign deploys to help universities become aware and reach their goals.
