I’ve spent all of my professional career in Western New York and am continually inspired by the resurgence happening across our region. There’s an unwavering drive to make our region a sustainable and inclusive hub for innovation, business and community—and design plays a big role in this revolution. We’re already seeing extraordinary transformations unfolding, and I look forward to partnering with our clients and showing them how our fully integrated design firm, with its national expertise and a local presence can help our region achieve even more.

Bob Donahue leads CannonDesign’s Buffalo and Pittsburgh offices. Buffalo’s office is the largest architecture and engineering practice in upstate New York with nearly 180 employees. Working with firm and office leadership, he develops and leads strategies for office growth, operational excellence, diversity and inclusion, community and client engagement, cultural advancement and talent development. He also works directly with healthcare and education clients, helping them rethink and assess their strategies and facility investments to better support their visions and advance the communities they operate in.

Prior to CannonDesign, Bob spent more than 28 years as a senior executive of operations at Unity Health and Rochester Regional Health systems in Rochester, NY. He’s overseen $750 million in construction during his career and was responsible for a team of 1,600 employees while managing a $700 million operations budget. Bob also spent three years working for a regional contractor focusing on business development and strategic planning. These experiences have given him a rare understanding of client relations, strategic and capital planning, facility planning, design and delivery, and ongoing building operations.

Bob has authored several articles and national level presentations on topics such as successful multi-million-dollar hospital renovations and expansions, system-wide logistics and operations, as well as the implementation of cost-reduction strategies. He is also an active member of the community with numerous board positions and volunteer work.
