Back to Our People

Joe Kuspan, AIA, EDAC

Joe is a designer and planner with extensive experience across the full spectrum of healthcare facility types. He has positioned himself at the intersection of design and planning, with particular focus on evidence-based design, sustainability, wayfinding and placemaking. Joe has lectured extensively – including at the AIA National Convention and the National Buildings Museum – and has received numerous awards, including being named one of the 25 most influential people in healthcare design by Healthcare Design magazine.

My life revolves around architecture and design. Outside of work, I restore houses, read books about architecture, design my own furniture — and now even both of my children are in architecture school. My passion for design also stems from personal experience as a patient, giving me unique insight into the impact of the built environment on both patients and caregivers. All of this drives my belief that design can improve the human spirit and our abilities in a subtle yet powerful way.
