Director of Communications
Good stories make us smile. They make us think and they leave us wanting more. Above all else, my job is to be a good storyteller. To work with our insanely talented designers to capture the essence of what they do and tell stories that communicate the value design brings to our clients and the world.
Working alongside an extremely creative group of writers, content marketers, and PR gurus, Michael leads communications for CannonDesign. A writer and communications strategist by trade, he develops and implements communications strategies that enhance the firm’s reputation and brand, accelerate business growth, and demonstrate the power of design. At heart, though, he’s a storyteller. He uses the power of story to shape discussions around the role design plays in moving our world forward.
Passionate about community engagement, Michael also works with clients in developing public engagement and communications plans for projects. He has led the creation of multiple virtual engagement websites and is skilled at facilitating in-person community workshops — prompting discussions and distilling findings into easily digestible takeaways. Prior to joining CannonDesign, he managed communications at one of the largest A/E firms in the world.
Michael holds a master’s degree in writing from Portland State University and currently serves as the co-chair of CannonDesign’s Diversity and Inclusion Council. He can almost always be found wearing a flannel shirt (except for in his bio picture).
