Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
CannonDesign is on a powerful DEI journey and I’m so excited to be a part of it. My goal every day is to push our firm further—to be bolder and more courageous as we work collectively to dismantle inequity and strengthen our inclusive work environment.
Sharla partners with leaders across our firm to deliver on our commitments to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). With a J.D. from Howard University School of Law and a Master of Professional Studies degree in HR Management/Diversity & Inclusion from Georgetown University, her area of expertise is creating strategic, sustainable approaches to DEI that address talent acquisition, professional development and employee retention and engagement.
A dynamic leader and passionate advocate for historically marginalized communities, Sharla is skilled in facilitating courageous conversations about race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity and more. She regularly contributes her thought leadership at high-profile venues, including presenting on implicit bias at the Corporate Counsel Women of Color Conference and acting as a development coach for the Black44 Professional Development and Networking Retreat—an affinity group created for former appointees under the Obama administration.
One of Shala’s primary focus areas is strengthening and implementing CannonDesign’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Framework, which outlines our commitments to fostering equity and inclusion within our firm, breaking down barriers for entry into the profession, and providing support to underrepresented communities in the cities where we live and work.
