A full-service, freestanding healthcare campus, Texas Children's Hospital The Woodlands is the newest chapter in Texas Children’s Hospital’s legacy of exemplary pediatric medical care. Located in one of greater Houston’s fastest growing areas, the new campus offers inpatient, outpatient, and emergent pediatric medical and surgical services.

The Woodlands community has long desired a Texas Children’s Hospital presence to eliminate the near 80-mile roundtrip drive to the hospital’s main campus in the Texas Medical Center. The new greenfield 22-acre campus features a six-story outpatient building, a five-story hospital building, and a seven-story parking garage. The campus includes a water retention lake, walking path, front door parking and verdant landscaping.

Beginning at project conception, The Woodlands community was heavily involved with campus visioning and planning. Inspired by the forest community, our design team created a 'Spirit of the Woods' theme for the campus, beautifully balancing the playful and welcoming TCH brand within a serene, natural atmosphere. The ongoing engagement and vetting of design decisions by community groups fostered an enthusiastic collaboration among TCH leadership, the design team and the community the campus now serves.

The building’s colorful beacons and shimmering glass juxtapose lush landscaping and a fountain lake; the towers of brightly colored bands visible from the exterior bring the outside in and serve as interior wayfinding for visitors in the public elevator lobbies. Inside, informal paths, organic shapes and textures, and diffused daylighting blend with bright, playful colors—designed to positively distract young patients and appeal to their parents.

From the lobby welcome desk, families and visitors can follow the meandering stream to the emergency center, to the medical office building, or to dining, where floor-to-ceiling glass looks onto a landscaped courtyard and a meadow.

Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands fully opened in April 2017 and was the first stand-alone pediatric healthcare facility for communities north of Houston. Additionally, the facility consolidates many pediatric community services provided previously in The Woodlands and is home to primary and specialized pediatric care services. The campus is a truly comprehensive healthcare offering to north Houston children and their families.
