Design Solutions Inspired by Districtwide Participation
Rockford Public School District 205 executed significant additions ranging from cafeterias, gymnasiums, and classrooms at six area elementary schools. The district’s engagement process included workshops to develop “design drivers” for promoting student achievement, improving resource use and increasing district desirability. These design drivers informed the overall project vision — making them unique within the district. The additions included major infrastructure modifications including HVAC, dining, security and lighting upgrades. The projects were coordinated using a phased approach and implemented during multiple stages while school was in session with minimal disruptions. The spaces are now flexible and agile, allowing multiple instructional methodologies, learning interactions, and interdisciplinary work.
