We are thrilled to unveil the design of the new College of Health and Human Services building at California State University, Long Beach (Long Beach State). After seven years of the client’s planning and collaboration, the schematic design project has been approved by the CSU Board of Trustees.
“Since 2007, our strong and lasting partnership with the Long Beach State team has been marked by understanding, trust and mutual growth,” said Jenny Delgado, CannonDesign’s principal on the project. “Together, we’ve navigated challenges and celebrated achievements, knowing that this relationship is founded on fostering innovation, sharing success and delivering valuable experiences for the Long Beach State community.”
Taking a bold approach to interdisciplinary learning and collaboration, the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at Long Beach State is envisioned as “The Partnership College.” This transformational project will replace three aged and outdated buildings with a modern, three-level facility designed to support the school’s mission and future adaptability.
The new 130,000 sf building represents the assembly of 11 unique departments including Family and Consumer Sciences, Healthcare Administration, Health Sciences, Nursing, Physical Therapy, recreation and Leisure Studies, and Social Work into one building.
The building will become a hub not only for students and faculty, but community members. Deliberately designed to encourage interdisciplinary collaborations, the building will include teaching labs that can be shared across college departments, research space, office and administrative space and student study and collaboration spaces. Through an innovative partnership with Long Beach Memorial Care, the building will also house a health clinic and a clinical care simulation center.
