Designers from across the firm came together to create "The Corallite."
The team of Sharon Mathew, Steffany Brady, Stefania Ingaramo, Aimee Platt, Chun-Tien Kuo, Brandon Geiger and Chris Soria collaborated for several weeks on inspiration, sketching and ideation processes to come up with The Corallite.
The eVolo Magazine Skyscraper Competition has existed since 2006 and "recognizes outstanding ideas that redefine skyscraper design through the implementation of novel technologies, materials, programs, aesthetics, and spatial organizations; along with studies on globalization, flexibility, adaptability, and the digital revolution."
Inspired by sci-fi thrillers and ignited by the reality of a world in climate crisis, The Corallite is envisioned as a self-sustaining vertical wellness village designed to empower health and wellbeing for a world at sea in the year 4023. The design team experimented with the use of generative AI applications paired with traditional design tools to help visualize the concept and finalize the submission.
As the team describes in their submission, "The Corallite employs a kit-of-parts strategy that enables program flexibility and mobility. Each component of the building can be detached and deployed anywhere in the world as needed. For example, a critical care module can be removed from the building and transported to an emergency site without disrupting operations in the tower."
"The Corallite creates an economic and social focal point that is rooted in health. The tower is designed to not only cure and care for illness but to empower wellbeing at every turn. The Corallite stands as a physical testament to the resilience of our human race and the innovation that continues to propel our society forward despite the uncertainty of our future."
