The chairman of the Jaypee Group asked our urban planning team to develop a new city in India—fusing a dense urban fabric of streets, city blocks, and a tight weave of low and tall buildings, with a continuous, flowing serpentine network of parks. The result is Jaypee Sports City, a privately financed development that replaces 42.6 million sqm of dry pastureland with India’s most modern and sustainable city.

Situated on the border of Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state with over 200 million people, and Delhi , the world’s eighth largest metropolis, Sports City is a budding metropolis in its own right, providing residential space for 1.2 million inhabitants with commercial and retail amenities that may see a daytime population over 2 million.

A 10 mile serpentine park acts as the main boulevard and transit corridor that unifies the disconnected land areas by providing a continuous journey through the city. Secondary parks are oriented perpendicular to the boulevard to channel favorable winds through the metropolis, helping to cool and ventilate the neighborhoods they define while completing a continuous pedestrian system.

Sports City is set apart from the other major developments in the National Capital Region through the Jaypee Group’s determination to provide clean, pleasant and lush public space in the streets, boulevards and parks while maintaining efficient and reliable utilities that are optimized through integrated networks.
