Ehrman Crest receives prestigious AIA Education Facility Design Award
April 12, 2023
We are thrilled to share that Seneca Valley's Ehrman Crest Elementary and Middle School has received a prestigious 2023 AIA Education Facility Design Award.
Each year the AIA's Committee on Architecture for Education recognizes leading-edge learning environments that elevate education design. Ehrman Crest is one of just 13 projects recognized from across the full continuum of education this year.
Ehrman Crest Elementary and Middle School is a learning space that dares to explore what can happen when learning spaces are designed more like children’s museums. The result is an entirely new type of school, one that activates learning everywhere and gives students unparalleled agency to curate their educational journey.
Ehrman Crest is a building that redefines learning and makes it possible everywhere-in classrooms, yes, but also the school’s corridors, outdoor spaces, group learning areas, along peg walls, via environmental graphics and beyond.
As children would experience in a museum, Ehrman Crest simultaneously supports multiple learning modalities (visual, auditory and kinesthetic). The school is infused with both digital and analog media and experiences. The spaces emphasize and celebrate process just as much as product.
This recognition from the AIA builds on extensive awards and media coverage the project has earned to date. Ehrman Crest has previously been named a TIME Magazine Best Invention of the Year and been profiled by Smithsonian, NPR and extensive Pittsburgh and national media.
