The Virtual Hospital: Impact and Trends of Virtual Inpatient Care

Telehealth has spurred one of the healthcare industry’s newest and most exciting innovations—the virtual hospital. Virtual hospitals provide remote care from a central location to patients of varying acuities by leveraging telehealth and other applications on a platform where patients and doctors can communicate with each other.

These virtual hospitals have a wider reach than traditional, brick and mortar hospitals as they can cater to patients without the confines of one physical location by allowing patients in hospitals or at home to be monitored by remote providers. Although the aim of telehealth is not to make healthcare completely remote, virtual hospitals are able to provide more equitable care for those who live in rural communities without accessible specialized care.
