We're proud to share our Deb Favaretto has been named a Rising Star by Metropolis magazine as part of its 2022 Planet Positive Awards.

Every year, Metropolis recognizes the most creative projects and products from around the world that instill sustainability, as well as firms and professionals who pave the way to a better built environment.

Deb is a proven rising star in the world of sustainable design by numerous measures. All at once, she is driving remarkable sustainability outcomes on projects while leading breakthrough internal changes around culture and process at CannonDesign.

Planet Positive Award

Deb focuses on health projects and has been invaluable to organizations including Kaiser Permanente, Northwestern Medicine and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin among many others. For Kaiser Permanente, she performed one of the company’s first Whole Building Life Cycle Assessments for a medical office building in Hesperia, CA that ultimately achieved LEED Gold certification. For Northwestern Medicine’s Old Irving Park Outpatient Center, Deb and her team sought to reduce the overall embodied carbon and low-carbon hybrid concrete, and successfully achieved an overall 22 percent reduction in carbon emissions for the building.

  • As a key member of our core sustainability team, Deb leads our sustainability healthcare strategies for dozens of teams at a time, spanning hundreds of people. Her job is to innovate and show these project teams pathways to implement deep green and decarbonization strategies. While all this sounds highly technical (and it is!), Deb somehow also manages to do it all in a way that excites our teams and our clients to solve problems they didn’t even know they had.

She has also evolved the firm’s energy design process and toolkit and continues to shape the firm’s annual Environmental Awareness Week.

Through all these efforts and more, Deb has established herself as a leading voice nationally in sustainable design, always speaking up and acting with incredible passion to redefine what’s possible for a more sustainable and regenerative built world.
