A remarkable design leader, Kevin has consistently shaped dynamic, meaningful, sustainable and award-winning projects across essentially every market typology in his 28+ years in practice. In his new role, he’ll work to nourish our Living-Centered Design approach as he guides projects and teams in San Diego, across California and nationally.
“Kevin is one of the most thoughtful and creative design leaders I’ve met in my career and I am so excited he’s joined CannonDesign,” shared David Polzin, AIA, CannonDesign’s executive director of design. “His work demonstrates wonderful ingenuity and understanding of the human condition. He’ll be an incredible asset to our clients as they seek projects that shift paradigms, blaze new trails and seize opportunities for brighter futures.”
During his career, Kevin has held design leadership positions at numerous firms and also founded his own practice, Nyhoff Architecture, with his wife Mairi Nyhoff. His work includes signature projects including Adidas North American Headquarters, the Stanford University Graduate School of Business Knight Management Center, Virginia Tech’s Integrated Arts Center, King Edwards Arts Hub and Incubator, Sidewalk Labs Proto-Model X, Urban Systems Workplace and the Royal Albert Museum Gift Shop to name just a few.
Talking about his decision to join CannonDesign, Kevin shared, “There’s a commitment to creating architecture that makes people’s lives better that echoes across CannonDesign. You see it in their work. You feel it when you meet their people. I’m proud to join a company with that kind of passion and energy, and I can’t wait to begin helping them craft projects where all people can flourish.”
Kevin joins at an exciting moment. Our San Diego team just moved into a new office twice the size of our previous home that is just steps from PETCO Park and the Gaslamp Quarter in San Diego’s East Village. The new space is designed as a creative hub that fuels innovation and can also accommodate our accelerating growth in the region.
We’re also leading projects across San Diego, including the County of San Diego Behavioral Health Hub, Tri-City Medical Center Psychiatric Hospital and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs Spinal Cord Injury Hospital. And, our firm has recently been named the #2 Most Innovative Company in North America and the ENR-California design firm of the year in 2020.
“Our San Diego and California offices have incredible positive momentum right now, and Kevin’s joining is more great news,” said Brandon Dekker, DBIA, leader of our San Diego office. “He’s one of the premier design leaders in North America and I’m excited to have him as a partner to see how he helps both our team and our clients achieve new heights.”
