In celebration of the Virginia Treatment Center for Children’s (VTCC) official opening, key industry publications have recognized the facility’s key design elements that support healing. VTCC’s mission-driven design uses elements to both destigmatize behavioral healthcare and support healing. These include ample access to natural light, a warm, soothing color palette, and a “therapy mall” that includes spaces for occupational, recreational, art, music, and play therapy to support socialization and different treatment modalities. At 120,000 sf, VTCC is one of the largest free-standing children’s mental health centers in the United States. The center officially opened to patients on April 23.
